Your child's 1st birthday is a major milestone! By now they may be walking, crawling, saying their first few words and showing your their angelic little personalities more than ever! You'll no doubt want to save all of that and having a 1st birthday photoshoot or a cake smash will capture those precious milestone moments.
Cake smash photography is a popular and a fabulously fun way to celebrate your child's first birthday! Just have a look at the gallery below to see how much they enjoy getting messy and then splashing around in a tub full of bubbles!
The first part is a mini portrait session, you can choose to have a whole family photo, have the siblings taken together or simply have first birthday photos to mark their special occasion before we move on to the messy bit, the cake smash photoshoot.
After the cake is demolished, a warm bubble bath awaits to splash in and wash off all that sticky mess and you can take home a nice clean (tired) baby!
You will need outfits for you and baby for the portrait session, why not match up?
You will need to bring a towel, you may also wish to bring a favourite toy and a change of clothing as parents often end up covered in cake too!

Frequently asked questions
Can I have portraits before the cake smash?
Yes. The first part of the session is a mini portrait session where we take images of your baby sitting, (standing if able) with a favourite teddy etc. Before moving on to the cake smash.
Can we / other children be included?
Yes. Parents and siblings can be part of the mini portrait session and are included in all packages except the mini smash.
Do you provide cake and outfits?
Yes. cake and cake smash outfits, are provided except for the mini smash. Unfortunately I can not provide dairy free or gluten free cakes. Please feel free to bring your own or perhaps as an alternative have a paint splash instead?
What colours or themes do you have?
There are several choices for background colours, outfit colours etc. If there is something specific you woud like for your baby's cake smash such as a particular theme, (e.g. based on Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, etc.) Let us know in plenty of time then we can ensure we have everything ready for the day.
How long is the session?
Cake smash sessions can take anything between forty minutes to an hour. The time depends on how settled and comfortable your baby is on the day. It always helps to plan your session around naps and mealtimes to ensure a happy mood!
What should we wear?
Portrait images are usually taken on a neutral background of grey / cream. It's best to pick colours that either match or compliment each other, nothing too bright, with no logos or large patterns, this makes them more timeless and easier to display.
